I need a lift for a factory that carries 2,000 kg. What type should I choose?

Quick answer: Choose a traction freight elevator with a car of about 1900 x 2100 mm and a 1500 x 2100 mm center opening double folded door. Take the machine room version if you can build a machine room above the shaft. Take the machine roomless version if you want everything inside the shaft. KOYO lists both at 0.5 or 1 m/s for travel up to 45 m.
Why 2,000 kg Is a Serious Decision
A 2,000 kg rating is the weight the lift can carry at one time. That weight must include the pallet, the pallet truck or forklift, and the operator, not only the cargo. Many factories choose 2,000 kg after counting only the product, then find the lift is overloaded on its first busy shift.
European standard EN 81 31 treats goods only lifts above 300 kg as a separate safety category from passenger lifts. It also assumes trained, authorised users. A 2,000 kg lift sits well inside that category, so plan it as industrial equipment, not as a passenger lift with a different label.
The Three Lift Types You Will Meet
- Hydraulic goods lifts use a piston and are common for short heights. They suit low rise buildings but become less practical as travel grows.
- Traction lifts with a machine room put the drive above the shaft. KOYO notes that its small machine room design saves about half the space of an ordinary machine room, with a minimum machine room height of 2800 mm.
- Machine roomless traction lifts put the drive parts in the shaft. This saves building space and removes the need for a rooftop room.
For a 2,000 kg factory lift that must run all day, the two traction versions are the strongest candidates. The catalogue gives full data for both.

KOYO 2,000 kg Freight Elevator: Official Specifications
Item | Machine room freight | Machine roomless freight |
Rated load | 2000 kg | 2000 kg |
Rated speed | 0.5 m/s or 1 m/s | 0.5 m/s or 1 m/s |
Door type | Center opening, double folded | Center opening, double folded |
Opening size (OP x OPH) | 1500 x 2100 mm | 1500 x 2100 mm |
Car size (CW x CD x CH) | 1900 x 2100 x 2200 mm | 1900 x 2100 x 2200 mm |
Shaft size (HW x HD) | 2900 x 2600 mm | 3100 x 2600 mm |
Top floor height (OH) | 4400 mm | 4600 mm |
Pit depth | 1500 mm | 1600 mm |
Lifting height | up to 45 m | up to 45 m |
Notice what changes between the two. The machine roomless lift needs 200 mm more shaft width, 200 mm more overhead and 100 mm more pit. In return you skip the machine room. That trade is the heart of the decision.
Planning for Growth: The Next Sizes Up
If your product mix may get heavier, check the larger sizes now. The catalogue lists these freight sizes:
Rated load | Opening | Car size | Shaft (machine room) | Shaft (machine roomless) |
3000 kg | 1700 x 2100 mm | 2200 x 2500 x 2200 mm | 3200 x 3000 mm | 3400 x 3000 mm |
4000 kg | 2000 x 2100 mm | 2400 x 3000 x 2200 mm | 3600 x 3500 mm | not listed |
5000 kg | 2000 x 2100 mm | 2500 x 3500 x 2200 mm | 3700 x 4000 mm | not listed |
The 4000 kg and 5000 kg sizes run at 0.5 m/s only. Building a shaft that already fits a larger size can cost far less than rebuilding later. Treat this as a design question for your engineer, not a promise that any shaft can be upgraded.
Built for Factory Abuse: The KYC H401 Car
KOYO’s freight car, model KYC H401, is made for rough handling. The catalogue lists these standard parts:
- Car wall: steel plate paint
- Car roof: steel plate paint, acrylic and a round fan
- Car bottom: pattern steel plate paint, which helps wheels and boots grip
- Car door: steel plate baking paint
Paint colors are PS 001 (standard), PS 002 and PS 006. Choose a color that hides scuffs, because forklift marks are certain. The round fan also helps in hot loading areas.
Control and Safety Features Worth Asking About
Rated load is only half the story. These features from the electrical control specification matter on a factory floor:
- Overload protection: when the car is overloaded, the door does not close and a buzzer sounds.
- Full load by pass: at about 80% of rated load, the car skips landing calls so it does not stop for cargo it cannot take.
- Running time limiter: if the car runs longer than 45 seconds without arriving, it stops.
- Attendant and independent running: useful when a trained operator controls loading.
- Optional extras: emergency leveling on power failure, front and rear door independent control, weighing compensation, fireman operation and group supervision for up to 8 lifts.
KOYO also uses a VVVF variable frequency door machine and an infrared light curtain at the entrance. A sensor based position system aims for accurate leveling, which protects wheels and loads at every stop. The permanent magnet gearless traction machine is rated by KOYO as saving over 40% of energy, and its energy regeneration technology cuts consumption by more than 20%.

A Practical Pakistan Factory Checklist
- Count the real load: cargo, pallet, truck and operator.
- Measure the biggest item and compare it with the 1900 x 2100 mm car and the 1500 x 2100 mm opening.
- Check the building: can you meet the 4400 mm or 4600 mm overhead and the 1500 mm or 1600 mm pit?
- Plan for power cuts and heat: ask about emergency leveling on power failure and ventilation.
- Confirm local inspection rules with your authority before ordering. Rules differ by city and industry.
- Match the speed to your flow: 0.5 m/s is steady for heavy loads, 1 m/s moves more trips per hour.
